Research Notes

A working journal, not a new institution.

These dated notes record how a question, scene or thought experiment changed while the trilogy and physics companion were being developed. They are shorter, more personal and less final than the fifteen core themes.

How the argument and the fiction changed each other

· Origin

Why one book became three

The first manuscript could carry the human cost of asking an unwelcome question, but it could not carry every physical scale the question opened. Observation led to the distinction between an event and its travelling report. That led to the receiver, and the receiver led from one electron to organised matter.

The trilogy therefore did not grow by extending one plot. Each book corrected the object of attention. Book One asks what is observed. Book Two asks what travels and what the receiver’s motion changes. Book Three asks what in matter receives the electromagnetic field at all.

The portal follows the same correction in public, but allows the reader to stop at any depth.

· Thought experiment

The second passenger in the train

The familiar train scene places one passenger at the midpoint and asks why the two lightning flashes do not reach that passenger together. The useful correction was to add another passenger farther back in the same train.

That second passenger can pass through the exact place and time at which the two light fronts meet. The passenger receives both flashes together even though the midpoint passenger does not. Both belong to the same train.

This does not by itself settle distant simultaneity. It reveals something more basic: simultaneous reception belongs to a local meeting event and to the trajectory that passes through it. A frame-wide judgment comes later, through a synchronized network of clocks.

Why the word Titraj stayed

The third novel needed a word that could survive changes of scale. Oscillation was too technical in some scenes and too narrow in others. Vibration carried a mechanical picture. The characters needed a word that could point to organised response without pretending that the final model was already complete.

Titraj stayed because it could be spoken by a child, questioned by a student and gradually sharpened by Jan. It names motion before the story decides exactly which physical object is moving.

The untranslated title also preserves the moment in which a new description emerges from ordinary family language rather than from an institution naming a theory.

Support the practical work

Support helps with editing, design, publication, and the practical work of bringing the trilogy to readers. It does not purchase privileged scientific answers or alter how questions are treated.

Possible supporter extras may include an early chapter, a note about how a scene was built, or an update from the publication process.
